The primary task of the Naqshbandi Sufi Order is to provide a structure within which the individual member/murid can strive for spiritual purification under the guidance of their Shaykh/Murshid.

In Southern Africa, the Naqshbandi Sufi Order has been established since 2000 and gained momentum under the Khalifat of Shaykh Yusuf da Costa when Maulana Sheikh Nazim (QS), the 40th Grand Shaykh of the distinguished Naqshbandi Sufi Order visited South Africa.

Under the instruction of the late Maulana Sheikh Nazim (QS), the Naqshbandi practices have been spread, in particular, the spreading of the Naqshbandi Dhikr (the Khatm-ul Khawajagan), the building of mosques (prayer and ablution facilities) and spreading the message of Islam and Feeding the poor.

These efforts occur primarily in the poorer areas, and in this country it means the poor black areas.

This work is being tirelessly fulfilled by the Naqshbandi Muhammadi Order of South Africa.

The work of NMSA continues with the blessings, spiritual association and guidance of the 41st Grand Shaykh of the distinguished Naqshbandi Sufi Order, Moulana Shaykh Mehmet Adil ar-Rabbani – the successor to Moulana Shaykh Nazim-al Haqqani.

Shaykh Shamiel da Costa has succeeded as the Khalifat, since the passing of Shaykh Yusuf da Costa.
